Program Description

Event Details

The Tennessee Archive of Moving Image & Sound (TAMIS) continues its monthly screening series at Central Cinema in March with Amateur Movie Day, an eclectic celebration of archival amateur film presented in collaboration with University of Tennessee Cinema Studies. This screening will feature several unique short films that demonstrate how non-professional filmmakers–such as hobbyists, students, and artists–have expressed themselves using motion pictures. Multiple artifacts from TAMIS’s permanent collection will screen alongside contributions from other artists, collectors, and institutions. Included films date from the 1930s to the 2020s with recurring examples of international locations and home-grown crime thrillers.

Amateur Movie Day is sponsored globally by the Amateur Movie Database, an academic project collating information about historic amateur cinema. This is the second annual Amateur Movie Day, as well as the second year that TAMIS and UT Cinema Studies have hosted an official Knoxville event. The one-time screening will take place at 6:30 on Thursday, March 19. Admission is FREE, and free popcorn will be available.
