Program Description

Event Details

Daytime Docs is a monthly film series featuring documentaries that bring awareness to diverse perspectives and life experiences through the power of visual storytelling.

In honor of Black History Month, we look at the enduring legacy of tennis legend and humanitarian, Arthur Ashe (July 10, 1943-February 6, 1993), in Citizen Ashe (2021). This film charts Ashe’s personal evolution from Grand Slam champion to global activist against a tumultuous backdrop that included the civil rights movement, South African apartheid, and the AIDS epidemic.

Viewers are encouraged to stay after the screening to discuss the film. Then browse our Sights & Sounds collection to take home a few documentaries and films until our next screening! Can't make it? Stream this title, along with thousands of others, for free on Kanopy with a valid library card.
