Program Description

Event Details

Ages 8 - 13. Come and participate in the annual Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week!

For participants with computers: Work (individually or with a partner) to complete the free Code Monkey Hour of Code challenge:  Coding Adventure! This is designed to teach 8-13 year-olds computer coding fundamentals.

Note:  Bring your own device (laptop or tablet computer); headphones/earbuds optional.

For participants without computers or for slightly younger participants:  Play the board game Code Monkey Island, which teaches coding fundamentals at a more basic level.

We also have a partner activity that uses colored wooden geometric pattern blocks to teach algorithmic thinking:  two people are given the exact same blocks and sit back-to-back for the activity. One person builds a design with their blocks and then describes it step by step to their partner, who tries to build the same design without guessing or looking.
