Book signings

Local author requests for library hosted book readings and signings

KCPL has a long history of promoting books and reading through book and author programs and events. We receive numerous requests to sponsor book signings, most of which we cannot accommodate due to time restraints, staffing, space availability or lack of public interest.

Only books that are in the library's collection will be considered for a reading. Preference will be given to books published by national or recognized regional publishers that have topics with broad local appeal such as histories, novels set in the region, biographies of well-known regional individuals, and the natural world.

Local authors generally receive no stipend for readings/book signings; however, they may sell copies of their books after the program. While library staff will not assist in managing or assisting with book sales, the library will provide a table and space for signings. Authors should inform staff if they wish to sell books when the program is scheduled.

Program format

The author will read an excerpt or excerpts from the book for 15-20 minutes, followed by questions and answers. After the program has concluded, the author can be available to sell and sign books. Book signings must conclude by the time the library closes.
