Meet Dr. Al Hazari, the scientist who believes that science is for everyone—from ages 2 to 102! Dr. Al has spent more than 25 years visiting schools and libraries all over Knox County, dazzling kids with bubbling potions, color‑changing concoctions, and “magic tricks” that are really just science in disguise.
He’s a real chemist with a real Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee, where he taught students and ran chemistry labs—but his favorite thing in the world is helping kids discover how fun science can be.
Every summer, Dr. Al hits the road with his traveling chemistry show, bringing exciting experiments (and plenty of laughs) to libraries across East Tennessee. He likes to say he’s a “scientist who sometimes thinks he’s a magician”—and once you see his experiments fizz, pop, and glow, you’ll agree!
He has even won national awards for helping people fall in love with chemistry, including the American Chemical Society’s Helen M. Free Award for Public Outreach.
