Evelyn Jack comes from a family of gospel singers. Raised in Memphis, she sang at her church for the first time when she was five years old. Her mother taught her to believe that God gave her a gift to be used to help other people.

While growing up she sang at every opportunity and was awarded a full scholarship in vocal music at Virginia Union University. She formed her own band there and on weekends, played music and cut hair. She had an opportunity to go to Nashville to pursue a musical career but she declined knowing that her mother would be furious if she did not finish her degree.

Evelyn has lived in various places, including Chicago, and she has pursued various careers serving as Merchandise Coordinator for Miller’s and Hess department stores and as a literacy tutor in Knox County Schools. Whatever her day job and wherever she lives, singing remains her passion.

Join our host, Taber Gable, for this interview/performance with one of Knoxville’s most beloved and popular singers.
