Documentary and concert
We are honored to welcome Alice Gerrard for A Celebration of Women in Old-Time Music. As the centerpiece of the weekend event, we’ll screen the acclaimed documentary You Gave Me a Song, which chronicles Alice’s extraordinary life and musical legacy—followed by a live performance by Alice and her bandmates Tatiana Hargreaves and Reed Stutz.
This event is free and open to the public. No tickets or registration are required. (Seats are first come, first served.)
Alice Gerrard is a singer, songwriter and instrumentalist who has performed and advocated for old-time and bluegrass music for over 50 years. Her four recordings with Hazel Dickens during the 1960s and ’70s influenced a generation of women musicians from Laurie Lewis to the Judds.
Dive deeper into Alice's life with a discussion of her new autobiography, Custom Made Woman.
This event is presented in conjunction with the Birthplace of Country Music’s exhibit I’ve Endured: Women in Old-Time Music, currently on display at the Museum of East Tennessee History.
